Expressing concern on deteriorating law and order situation in the State, the leader of opposition (LoP) in State Assembly Yashpal Arya has said that instead of finding solutions for the problems of unemployment, price rise and corruption the State government is protecting those responsible for creating panic.
In a statement Arya said that the government should get the culprits punished irrespective of their religion. Expressing surprise at the Purola incident, Arya said the pictures coming out of the town are disturbing. “People of a minority community are getting displaced in the presence of police,’’ he said. Arya said that two accused in the Purola case belonged to different communities but only one community is being targeted at every level. He said that the Union government is also silent on the issue.
Arya alleged that such communal issues are deliberately being fanned because the Lok Sabha elections of 2024 are coming near and both the Union and State governments have no answers for the issue of increasing prices, unemployment and corruption. He added that just like the Assembly elections the BJP wants to win the Lok Sabha election by playing the politics of polarisation.
The LoP said that the image of Uttarakhand is getting maligned due to such incidents and a conspiracy is being hatched to create schism between two communities.
He said that the Supreme Court had castigated the State government on the issue of hate speech and the High Court has also sought reply from the State government on the issue. Arya demanded that the Prime Minister and Union Home minister should intervene in the matter.
