The leader of opposition (LoP) in Vidhan Sabha, Yashpal Arya has said that the plan of the State government to merge the Sports and the Youth Welfare and Prantiya Rakshak Dal (PRD) departments is impractical and unjustified.
In a statement Arya said that the Sports department is a completely technical department while the Youth Welfare and PRD is nontechnical department.
He said that while the Sports department conducts sports activities, the Youth Welfare and PRD implements many programmes, and out of them the rural sports activity are only five per cent. He said that 95 per cent of the activities of this department are not related to sports.
Arya said that the players take training in institutes such as Indian Sports Institute, Patiala, Kolkata and Bengaluru and get diploma certificates from them and on that basis they are appointed as coaches. The Youth Welfare and PRD department is meant to essentially provide work to the volunteers and Mahila Mangal Dals.
Arya said that the merger of the two departments will result in a situation wherein the non-technical employees will be entrusted with technical tasks. He said that the government should drop the idea of merger of the two departments.
