The leader of opposition (LoP) in Vidhan Sabha, Yashpal Arya has said that the decision of the Narendra Modi government to sell the profit making public sector undertaking Indian Medicine Pharmaceutical Corporation Limited (IMPCL) at Mohaan in Nainital district exposes its hollow claims of promoting Ayurveda and AYUSH in the country. Questioning the motive of the government to hand over the profit making mini Ratna company, the LoP said it is clear that the government is continuing to hand over precious assets of the nation to a select group of businessmen.
He said that the IMPCL was established in 1978 by the Union and the State governments. It is now an important plant manufacturing Ayurvedic and Unani medicines in the country and the medicines from here are supplied to all parts of the country and are also exported. Arya said that the company earned a profit of Rs 18 crore last year and this year too it is planning to hand over a dividend of Rs six crore to the government. He said that the Mohaan unit has more than 500 employees and thousands of farmers supply raw material to it. The LoP demanded that the government should clarify its motive behind handing over the profit making company to private players.
