Women Empowerment and Child Development (WECD) department minister Rekha Arya met Union minister of WECD Annpurna Devi in New Delhi on Tuesday, seeking support for strengthening Anganwadi centers in Uttarakhand. During the meeting, various important issues related to WECD in the State were discussed in detail.
A key focus of the discussion was the enhancement of Anganwadi centres in the State, specifically developing them into capable facilities. Arya said that some Anganwadi centres in the Udham Singh Nagar and Haridwar districts are currently being developed into Saksham Anganwadi centres, where necessary facilities will be provided.
She requested the Union minister to grant permission and provide support for upgrading Anganwadi centres in other districts of the State, ensuring they have adequate buildings and space to become capable facilities. The Union minister expressed a positive attitude toward this issue and assured that it would be considered at the appropriate level.
Arya also raised concerns regarding the take-home ration (THR) for the fiscal year 2025-26. She highlighted that various difficulties in obtaining the THR from the Government of India are causing financial problems. She requested the Union minister to resolve this issue promptly.
Additionally, Arya addressed the lack of progress in the FRS child census for the financial year 2026-27, noting that approximately 60 per cent of children have been left out of the census due to various adverse circumstances. She requested necessary solutions and further action regarding this matter.
Arya emphasised that the state government is continually striving to strengthen the Anganwadi system, provide better nutrition and facilities to children and equip Anganwadi centers with modern amenities.
