Tuesday, 10 May 2022 | PNS | Dehradun

Various aspects were discussed in a two-day international conference organised by Uttrakhand Ayurvedic University Dehradun in the auditorium of Rishikul Ayurvedic medical college, Haridwar.

The National Medicinal Plants Board (Ministry of Ayush) had funded the international conference on conservation, cultivation and sustainable use of high altitude medicinal and aromatic plants for socio-economic development.

More than 200 scientists and delegates from India and abroad participated in the conference. The deputy CEO of National Medicinal Plant Board, Chandrashekhar Semwal said that high altitude areas have their own challanges for cultivating medicinal plants like extreme weather conditions. In such areas the working hours are less and the infrastructure is limited. He opined that Uttarakhand has made a success story with the cultivation of Kutki, adding that the herb cultivated in various remote villages of the State had been exported to European nations.

Plant specialist Vinod Upadhyay said that China had capitalised on Ginseng but few know that it is what is known as Ashwagandha in India.
