Assembly members pay homage to former members

Following resumption of the extended winter session of Uttarakhand Assembly the house paid tributes on Monday to Manglaur MLA Sarwat Karim Ansari and five other former members who had died recently. The only business of the day for the extended session convened for Uniform Civil Code (UCC) was the motion of condolence. The members paid homage to BSP MLA from Manglaur Sarwat Karim Ansari, former cabinet minister Mohan Singh Rawat Gaonwasi, Puran Chand Sharma, Narendra Singh, Kishan Singh Tadagi and Dhani Ram Singh Negi.

Initiating the motion the leader of the house and chief minister Pushkar Singh Dhami said that the untimely death of Ansari was a personal loss for him. Remembering his old association with the BSP leader who died on October 30 last year, Dhami said that Ansari was a dedicated political worker. Paying homage to senior BJP leader Gaonwasi, the CM said that he was one of the founding members and pillars of the BJP in the State. He said that Gaunwasi became cabinet minister in the first government of Uttarakhand and he always remained concerned for the villages. The CM said that Singh had visited almost all villages due to which he got the name Gaonwasi. Dhami said that Singh was epitome of simplicity and had made politics as a medium of public service. He had gone to jail 37 times in his life. The CM also paid homage to Prem Chand Sharma who first became MLA in 1991 at the time of undivided Uttar Pradesh. He said that the dedication of Sharma will continue to inspire everyone. Paying homage to former MLA of Laksar, Narendra Singh the CM said that he was committed for welfare of the poor and had donated 1,000 bighas of land to landless people on the inspiration of Acharya Vinoba Bhave.

Dhami said that former MLA Kishan Singh Tadagi was a man of principles. He also paid homage to Dhami Ram Singh Negi who was a leader of teachers and was a member of legislative council in Uttar Pradesh. He said that Negi was a prominent educationalist.

The leader of opposition (LoP) Yashpal Arya said that Ansari used to explain complex public issues in a very simple language. He also paid tributes to Mohan Singh Rawat Gaunwasi, Prem Chand Sharma, Narendra Singh, Kishan Singh Tadagi and Dhani Ram Singh Negi. The BSP leader Mohammad Shajad, cabinet ministers Premchand Agarwal, Dhan Singh Rawat, Satpal Maharaj, MLAs Madan Kaushik, Bhuwan Kapdi, Pritam Singh and others also paid their homage to Ansari and other departed members of the house.

 The Speaker Ritu Khanduri presented a brief description of the journey of the lives of Ansari and five former members of the house and expressed her condolences to their family members.
