Dehradun police have arrested an assistant professor of a private engineering college for allegedly leaking questions for Veer Madho Singh Bhandari Uttarakhand Technical University semester examination a few days before the test. Notably, the private college is affiliated to the university. The action was taken after a complaint was filed by the controller of examinations of the university. Later, the university cancelled the examination.
The arrested accused was identified as Ashish Kumar Gupta, a 40-year-old assistant professor at Shivalik College of Engineering, Jhajhra.
The superintendent of police (City), Pramod Kumar said that the university had received an email claiming that an assistant professor at Shivalik College of Engineering had shared questions of some important examinations with students through a WhatsApp group on July 3 for the semester examination held on July 8. “After comparing the shared questions with the actual question paper, the university found several similarities. An internal inquiry also found that similar questions had been shared with students through the university’s internal portal and WhatsApp before the examination,” SP added.
Based on the complaint, Premnagar police registered a case and started an investigation. During the probe, police collected witness statements and other evidence and subsequently, they arrested the accused. He has been booked under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), police informed.
SP Kumar said they are examining the electronic devices seized from the accused to find out how the questions had been leaked and whether any other people were involved. “Further investigation is underway and strict legal action will be taken against anyone found connected to the case,” Kumar said.
