At least 117 roads blocked across the State

Though there has been some respite from heavy rains in various parts of the State during the weekend, at least 117 roads were reported to be blocked in the different districts on Sunday evening. According to information provided by the State Emergency Operations Centre (SEOC), at least 20 rural motor roads were blocked in the Uttarkashi district while all national and state highways along with rural motor roads were open in the Udham Singh Nagar district. The Chamoli district is the worst affected with 41 rural motor roads blocked. Further, the important Karnprayag-Gwaldam state highway which connects the Garhwal and Kumaon regions was blocked by debris at Nalgaon. The Border Roads Organisation (BRO) was working to clear the debris and reopen the road.
While one rural motor road was reported blocked in the Nainital district, all roads were open for traffic in the Almora district. In the Dehradun district, one main district road and five rural motor roads were reported blocked while in the Champawat district the Tanakpur-Champawat-Ghat national highway 9 was blocked due to consistently falling debris and boulders at Swala-Kot. Apart from this two rural motor roads were blocked in the district. In the Pauri district, two other district roads and 13 rural motor roads were reported to be blocked while one main district road and three rural motor roads were reported to be blocked in the Bageshwar district. In the Rudraprayag district, while the national highway to Kedarnath was open for traffic, 11 rural motor roads were reported to be blocked. Similarly, one state highway and five rural motor roads were blocked in the Tehri district while in the Pithoragarh district nine rural motor roads were reported to be blocked. Efforts are underway to clear the debris and reopen the blocked roads in various districts.
