Author, academician Shobharam to receive Vidyasagar Sahitya Samman 2023

The noted writer Shobharam Sharma would be bestowed with the Vidyasagar Sahitya Samman 2023 in recognition of his contribution to the realm of literature. Moreover, the eminent social worker Anil Swami Thapliyal will also be felicitated for leading a number of social movements meant to facilitate social justice and empowerment of the weaker sections of the society over a span of five decades.
The award involves citation, memento and cash. This award was launched in honour of the celebrated Hindi writer late Vidyasagar Nautiyal. The three- member Vidyasagar Nautiyal Samman Samiti has selected the names of the recipients of these awards after careful deliberations, said one of the members and added that the award ceremony would be held in Dehradun on September 29. He further informed that an eminent scholar in Spanish language and literature Pravati Nautiyal would be the chief guest of the function while a noted writer Laxman Singh Bisht ‘Batrohi’ would be present as the special speaker.
Notably, Sobharam Sharma’s debut novel ‘Dhumketu’ was published in the 1950s. After a hiatus of several years, a collection of his writings was published in 2022. In the same year, his novel based on the life of one of the smallest tribes of Uttarakhand Raji or Banrawats was published. And the select committee members said that Anil Swami has been selected for felicitation in consideration of his unwavering commitment to the cause of social justice and empowerment of the weak for five decades.
