Authorities demolish 140 encroachments on first day

The Municipal Corporation of Dehradun (MCD) along with the Dehradun district administration demolished about 140 of the encroachments marked in various parts of the city on the first day of the anti-encraochment drive on Tuesday. For the drive being undertaken on the directions of the high court, the city was divided into four zones to remove the marked encroachments. On Tuesday, the team of the officials of the municipal corporation and district administration including city magistrate and sub-divisional magistrates (SDMs) commenced the demolition of encroachments in the marked areas of these zones including Chakrata Road, Rajpur Road, Haridwar Road and Saharanpur Road. According to municipal tax superintendent Vinay Pratap Singh, those structures which were encroaching near the main roads of the city were demolished on the first day of the anti-encroachment drive. He said that around 140 structures were demolished and about 1,300 establishments remain to be demolished in the coming days. He added that the corporation will continue to demolish the structures which are built on the encroached land in the city.
