Authorities deploy canine squad to search for missing mother and child

After consistently searching for the missing bodies of a woman and her child who were reportedly swept away in a drain near Lakshmanjhula in Rishikesh on Monday, the authorities deployed a canine squad in search of missing people in the area on Thursday. The officials informed that a car carrying four family members was washed away in a drain near Lakshmanjhula on Monday.
The man identified as Gopal Sharma (42) somehow managed to get out of the car and saved his life but his wife Reena Sharma (38) and two children Shubham (10) and Tejaswini (13) were swept away in the strong current of water. The officials said that the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) carried out a search operation and found the body of Tejaswini buried under debris a few metres away from Lakshmanjhula. They said that the teams have been conducting multiple intensive searches in all possible places for three days but could not find the bodies of the mother and her son after which, the SDRF commandant Manikant Mishra directed the teams to use a canine squad to speed up the process of finding the missing woman and child.
The teams searched for them using the dogs near the incident site and all possible places but did not find missing bodies till late on Thursday evening. The search will be resumed on Friday, added the officials.
