Authorities impose challans worth Rs 1.89 lakh for encroaching on footpaths

Authorities on Friday imposed a penalty of Rs 1.89 lakh issuing 220 challans to violators under the Dehradun district administration’s campaign of removing encroachments from roads and footpaths. The five joint teams of the Dehradun district administration, regional transport office (RTO), police, and Municipal Corporation of Dehradun (MCD) took action against encroachments in the five zones. The first three zones were Mohabbewala to Rajpur Road, Dhulkot to Kuanwala and Brahmakamal Chowk to IT Park and Sahastradhara Crossing to IT Park.
The fourth and fifth zone consisted of the areas from Rispana bridge to ISBT and Clock Tower to Dilaram respectively. The officials said that each team removed encroachments from 26 places in their respective zones. Taking action against encroachments, MCD issued a total of 81 challans amounting to Rs 1.22 lakh, the police team issued 64 challans amounting to Rs 32,000 and the RTO issued 75 challans amounting to Rs 55,000, as per the officials. The district magistrate Sonika also took stock of the action being taken by the team on Rajpur Road during the removal of encroachment under the campaign. She said that the administration is working on improving the traffic system across the city and all encroachments will be removed in a phased manner.
