A joint team of the Dehradun district administration, the Municipal Corporation of Dehradun (MCD), the Regional Transport Office (RTO) and the police issued about 200 challans on the weekend on those vendors encroaching roadside areas across the city.

The anti-encroachment campaign is being carried out on the orders of Dehradun district magistrate Sonika. She has formed five teams to remove encroachments from various roadside areas and intersections in Dehradun city that often lead to severe traffic congestion. On Saturday, the corporation issued 42 challans and imposed a penalty of Rs 32,800 while police imposed 40 challans and imposed a penalty of Rs 20,000.

Besides this, RTO issued 14 challans and collected a penalty of Rs 7,000, as per the officials. They informed that on Sunday, MCD issued 33 challans and imposed a fine of Rs 28,650 and the police issued 40 challans and imposed a fine of Rs 18,000. Besides this, RTO issued about 20 challans and imposed a fine of Rs 10,000, officials added. The teams removed encroachments from  Clock Tower to near Pacific Mall Rajpur Road area, Clock Tower to Forest Research Institute (FRI), Araghar to Dharampur Chowk and Rispana and Jogiwala areas.

The DM has ordered MCD, RTO and police to ensure vendors do not encroach on the spot again by setting up their shops or carts there again. “No unauthorised activity must be allowed again after the encroachment removal from roadsides and intersections as it has been severely affecting the traffic across the city. Authorities concerned must act legally against those who encroach the area again despite the warning,” the DM added.

She said that administration will not tolerate any negligence from any department concerned and they must continue to act against encroachment regularly at their level.
