Authorities on high alert after Pantnagar airport receives bomb threat

The authorities on Tuesday placed Pantnagar airport in Udham Singh Nagar district on high alert following a bomb threat received by email. The airport security as well as the police stepped up security measures soon after receiving the threat, the superintendent of police of Rudrapur Manoj Katyal told The Pioneer. Since similar threats were recently made against schools in Delhi and Uttar Pradesh, this threat also escalated concerns among airport authorities and the police. The SP said that the authorities have been conducting rigorous checks at the airport and the nearby areas since they received the information about the bomb threat. The vehicles were also being parked outside the premises for safety reasons. The police along with the departments concerned conducted all checks to detect any possible bomb. The senior superintendent of police of Udham Singh Nagar Manjunath TC also visited the airport after getting information about the bomb threat. He said that the airport administration has also taken comprehensive measures to ensure the safety of passengers and staff. The airport administration also mobilised security personnel to conduct thorough checks on all individuals entering the airport. They also requested additional forces from the district administration to strengthen security. The police also deployed additional personnel at the airport for security purposes. The SP said that all necessary precautions were taken to manage the threat and maintain the airport’s operations without compromising on safety. Police are vigilant and investigating the threat, he added.
