Authorities seal Ama café and Azure bar for open disposal of sewage

PNS | DEHRADUN

In response to complaints by local residents, the Dehradun district administration sealed two popular establishments on Rajpur Road, Ama Café and Azure Bar, for reportedly discharging untreated kitchen and sewage water into the open. The issue came to light during a public grievance meeting chaired by the Dehradun district magistrate Savin Bansal where residents presented evidence highlighting the health and hygiene risks posed by the establishments.

Acting on the complaints, the DM instructed a joint inspection team led by sub-divisional magistrate Kumkum Joshi. During the site visit, the team found the allegations to be true with untreated wastewater from the kitchen and sewage system of the complex flowing openly into streets and drains. This negligence was not only causing severe inconvenience to residents but also posed a significant risk of waterborne diseases, as per SDM.

Visibly irked by the blatant disregard for sanitation norms, Joshi ordered the immediate sealing of the premises under provisions of the Municipal Act and the Disaster Management Act. The establishments will remain closed until the complex owners install proper sewage treatment systems to prevent further violations, the SDM said. The inspection team included officials from the Municipal Corporation of Dehradun (MCD), the Excise department and disaster management authorities.
