The Forest department has placed cages in the vulnerable locations of Rajpur and Raipur areas to catch the leopard that killed a child last month and injured another on Sunday evening. In view of the recent leopard attacks in the city, the Dehradun senior superintendent of police Ajai Singh has appealed to the people to not unnecessarily wander outside after dark, especially in Rajpur and Raipur areas until the leopard is caught by the Forest department. The leopard scare in the Rajpur and Raipur areas has forced locals to stay indoors at night due to a leopard frequenting different colonies of the area for the past many days. A leopard had killed a four-year-old boy on December 27 in Rajpur’s Singli village. The leopard scare resurfaced in the city after a 12-year-old boy was attacked by a leopard near the Rispana river in the Chidonwali area on Sunday evening. According to the police, it appears to be the same leopard that killed the four-year-old 21 days ago. Singh said, “The leopard has been seen moving in various locations of Rajpur and Raipur areas in various CCTV footage. The police teams have been directed to do day and night patrolling while warning locals through loudspeakers to stay inside their homes at night. We have especially asked people to keep senior citizens, children, women, pets and domestic animals inside at night. Besides this, the police teams also helped the forest officials to set up cages in vulnerable locations of Rajpur and Raipur areas to catch the leopard. The authorities will catch the leopard soon but people need to stay alert and cautious until then,” the SSP added.
