Authorities strive to trap tiger after death of two men in Pauri villages

Pauri district magistrate Ashish Chauhan has set up safety measures in Dalla village in Rikhnikhal Tehsil and Simli village in Dhumakot  Tehsil after a tiger killed two old men on last Thursday and Saturday. Night curfew from 7 PM to 6 AM has been imposed in the area affected by the big cat’s movements in both the Tehsils.

The Lansdowne divisional forest officer Dinkar Tiwari told this correspondent that a tiger had killed the two old men in the villages. He further informed that section 144 has also been imposed in the two villages and surrounding area. The teams have been deployed to tranquilise and capture the big cat in Dalla village.The DM has directed the DFO to prepare a team to tranquilise and trap the big cat in Simli village also. Tiwari said that cages have been place in Simli.

It is pertinent to mention that it is first time in the recent history of Pauri district when the district magistrate has gone  to the villages affected by a big cat responsible for killing humans with both Pauri  and Lansdowne DFOs, revenue officer and other officials concerned late on Monday evening.The district administration,  and Forest department are also active and alert since this is believed to be the first time when a tiger has killed people in these two Tehsils of the district.

Chauhan has directed the Forest department to remain alert and monitor the area till the tiger is captured. He also appealed to the villagers to observe section 144 and avoid venturing outdoors after sunset. The fodder for cattle and food grains will be supplied by the officials concerned. Schools in the affected areas will also remain closed till the tiger is captured. Meanwhile, the atmosphere of fear in the affected area is ensuring that the villagers limit their outdoor movements especially after sunset.
