The Rudraprayag district administration on Friday suspended the registration of pilgrims for Kedarnath till May 8 due to the possibility of inclement weather in the area during the next three to four days. The district officials said that the administration has stopped the registration till Monday due to bad weather conditions and further decisions will be taken considering the weather conditions to prevent any inconvenience to pilgrims.
The meteorological department has issued an alert of rain and snowfall in the high Himalayan regions for the next few days and the administration has appealed to all pilgrims to consider the weather before planning their visit to Kedarnath or arriving through bridle paths. The administration had also temporarily closed the bridle path to Kedarnath on Thursday after a fragment of the Bhairav glacier broke in the afternoon.
The officials said that the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) also made an alternative barrier with ropes for the pilgrims who had reached there after a fragment of the glacier broke. Since many pilgrims consistently continue to come late on Thursday night, the SDRF personnel stationed on the spot removed heaps of snow from the road and safely helped over 10,000 pilgrims cross the path safely, as per the officials. It is pertinent to mention here that the administration had also temporarily stopped accepting registration applications from pilgrims for the Kedarnath Yatra on April 25 and then again on May 2 and May 3 due to heavy snowfall on the Char Dham routes and considering the warning of inclement weather by the meteorological department.
