Considering heavy traffic jams and congestion at tourist places in Dehradun district like Mussoorie, Rishikesh and Chakrata, the authorities are considering allowing entry of vehicles according to the parking capacity of these respective places. The police will also use a gate system to control the capacity of vehicles in these places.

This was stated by the Traffic directorate Mukhtar Mohsin in a review meeting of traffic arrangements and road safety in the Dehradun district held on Wednesday. He reviewed the traffic jams and congestion around ISBT and it was decided in the meeting that all Roadways buses must be parked only inside the ISBT premises. The police will seek cooperation from the Transport department to ensure the implementation of this order. He also said that the directorate will also approach the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI), Public Works Department (PWD), Mussoorie Dehradun Development Authority (MDDA) and Municipal Corporation of Dehradun (MCD) to develop the space under the ISBT flyover into a systematic parking space. The police will also launch a campaign to ensure heavy vehicles are parked only in the parking of the Transport Nagar.

Besides this, the departments concerned will also install rumble strips on the stretch from Chakrata Road towards Cantonment Road and Bindal to control the overspeeding there. Mohsin also directed the officials to send notices to the commercial building owners who do not have parking space on their premises. For traffic awareness activities, the superintendent of police, (Traffic) and deputy superintendent of police, (Traffic) will prepare a chart of schools with senior-level students and will send traffic inspectors and traffic sub-inspectors to schools to conduct road safety awareness programmes. Besides this, police personnel will be deployed at sensitive spots on national highways to monitor the traffic situation. The movement of the patrolling unit will also be increased for effective compliance of traffic rules, he added.
