Authorities using dog squad to find missing people buried beneath the rubble

Seven persons still missing in Dehradun district in the cloudburst triggered landslides on early Saturday morning
The State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) has started taking assistance of a dog squad to speeden up the search operation for the missing people in Bhainswara area that falls under Dehradun district who are believed to be buried under the rubble after a flash flood and landslide were triggered by a cloudburst on early Saturday morning. The officials said that these dogs have the ability to sniff the damaged house and find the human buried in the rubble. The authorities are also using Poclain machines to search for the missing people in Sarkhet and Soda Saroli areas of Raipur Block. According to the Dehradun district magistrate Sonika, a total of seven people are still missing out of which, four belong to Dehradun while three belong to Tehri Garhwal district. A 45-year-old man Sanjay Rai was found dead on Sunday evening whereas 12 people were injured and are under medical care. The DM said that all the forces including National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), Police and SDRF besides veterinarians and medical team are available in the affected areas to provide all kinds of required assistance. The administration has also made arrangements to carry out post-mortem procedures at the spot and other mandatory procedures to avoid any trouble to the families to acquire the body. The administration has also provided shelter to 10 families through camps in the area. The other affected people are also being provided with raw ration, cooked food, clothing and cooking gas cylinders among other things as per the requirement. Sonika said that the district administration team is also analysing the damage occurred in the affected areas to compensate the families accordingly. According to her, the administration has paid a relief amount of over Rs 24.7 lakh to 28 affected families.
Meanwhile, the DM also inspected the damaged bridge over Song River along with Raipur MLA Umesh Sharma ‘Kau’ on Monday evening. She directed the officials concerned to speed up the process of opening the road for public transportation as soon as possible. Moreover, the Garhwal commissioner Sushil Kumar also informed that four people have died so far in Garhwal division including two deaths from Tehri and one each from Dehradun and Pauri. Besides, 14 people are missing including seven each from Dehradun and Tehri districts. He said that the forces including 64 SDRF personnel and 39 NDRF personnel have been deployed to carry out relief and rescue works across the Garhwal division. The officials concerned are also conducting proper analysis of the damage caused to property and crops in order to properly compensate the affected families, added Kumar.
