Badrinath bypoll: Congress candidate Butola files nomination paper

The Congress party candidate Lakhpat Butola filed his nomination papers for Badrinath Assembly by election on Friday. He filed his papers at the office of returning officer at Gopeshwar, the district headquarters of Chamoli. Prior to filing papers, the Congress party organised a rally in Gopeshwar in which many senior leaders of the party took part. A public meeting was also organised at the city bus stand after the rally.
Addressing the party workers and supporters, the Pradesh Congress Committee (PCC) president Karan Mahara said that Badrinath by election is very crucial. He said that the people will give a fitting reply to BJP for forcing Agnipath scheme on the unemployed and for injustice to the family of Ankita Bhandari. Terming the BJP candidate from Badrinath Rajendra Bhandari as a party hopper the PCC president said that the people will teach him a lesson in the by election.
Former chief minister Harish Rawat said that the by election has been foisted on the people of Badrinath. He said that the people are not happy with the work style of BJP and claimed that the Congress party will register a big victory in Badrinath. Rawat appealed to people to support Congress candidate Butola and send him to the assembly.
The leader of opposition (LoP) in the State assembly Yashpal Arya said that the people of Badrinath will teach the BJP and its candidate a lesson in the by election.
Former PCC president Ganesh Godiyal said that the eyes of the entire State are on Badrinath by election. Accusing the BJP candidate Rajendra Singh Bhandari for betraying the people of Badrinath and Congress party, Godiyal said that the people have made up their mind to teach him a lesson.
The co-in-charge of Uttarakhand Congress, Deepika Singh, former cabinet minister Mantri Prasad Naithani, former MP Pradeep Tamta, Pratap Nagar MLA, Vikram Singh Negi, former MLA Manoj Rawat and other leaders also addressed the public meeting.
