In latest Uttarakhand news, after the Badrinath National Highway reopened at Chinka after 17 hours, the pilgrimage to the revered shrine resumed under police escort. The road remained blocked and the pilgrimage was halted following rain-triggered massive landslides, leaving thousands of pilgrims stranded. After the stretch affected by the landslips was cleared of the debris and rubbles, the vehicles, left stranded on both sides of the highway, were allowed to move on. It is learnt that the vehicles, left stranded near Pipalkoti and Birahi, were allowed to move on first at the initiative of the Police administration. Then the vehicles, left stranded near Chamoli, were allowed to move on. An estimated 10,000 pilgrims are now on their way to the shrine. The district disaster management officer Nand Kishore Joshi confirmed that the Badrinath National Highway had reopened and the vehicles, left stranded on both sides of the road, were being allowed to move on now towards their destinations. “But as boulders incessantly keep falling on the road from the hills, all should be alert while moving on,” he warned.
