Bahri to take oath as first woman chief justice of Uttarakhand High Court today

Ritu Bahri will be administered the oath of office as the new chief justice of Uttarakhand High Court at the Raj Bhawan in Dehradun by governor lieutenant general (retd) Gurmit Singh on Sunday. She will be the first woman chief justice of Uttarakhand High Court. This was stated in a statement issued by the High Court registrar general on Saturday. It is pertinent to mention here that Bahri was the officiating chief justice in the Punjab and Haryana High Court till now. The Supreme Court collegium recommended according her the post of Uttarakhand High Court chief justice after which the order to this effect was issued.

It is also worth mentioning here that justice Ritu Bahri was the first officiating chief justice of the Punjab and Haryana High Court. She had assumed the post of the acting chief justice of that court on October 14, 2023.

Born during 1962 in Jalandhar in Punjab, she underwent schooling in Chandigarh and secured a law degree from Punjab University in 1985. She started practicing as an advocate in the High Court of Punjab and Haryana in 1986 and later also served in the office of the Haryana advocate general. She was appointed as a judge in the High Court of Punjab and Haryana on August 16. 2010. Her father Amrit Lal Bahri also served as a judge in the High Court of Punjab and Haryana.
