The Women Empowerment and Child Development (WECD) minister Rekha Arya launched the ‘Bainiyaan Samvad’ programme aimed at assessing and enhancing the arrangements at Anganwadi centres. This initiative will serve as a platform for real-time inspections of remote Anganwadi centres through video calls, fostering a direct dialogue with Anganwadi workers and children.

On the first day of the programme on Saturday, the minister engaged with Geeta, a worker from the Majiyakhet Anganwadi centre in Bageshwar district, and Tara, a worker from the Nakot centre in Uttarkashi on video call from her camp office. Regarding this, Arya said that during these interactions, she enquired about the status of children’s education, food, nutrition and kitchen arrangements at the centres. The kitchen facilities were also inspected through video call.  The minister said that she also sought suggestions for improvements from the Anganwadi workers.

Additionally, the WECD minister spoke with the children individually during the video call, allowing them to share their experiences regarding the food and education they receive. Arya emphasised that this programme will be conducted regularly without prior notice to Anganwadi workers about who will be called on any given day. The WECD minister also addressed concerns raised about the absence of eggs in the meals served at Anganwadi centres, calling for explanations from department officials.
