Ballot papers reach districts, Govt machinery to ensure free & fair ULB polls

Ballot papers have reached all the districts for the urban local body elections to be held on January 23. State election commissioner Sushil Kumar said this while chairing a video conference with all district magistrates and superintendents of police to review preparations for the polls on Friday. He directed that all the departments concerned should work in coordination to ensure successful conduct of the elections.

Kumar said that implementation of the model code of conduct should be ensured till the conclusion of the polling process.Necessary tasks should be completed on time for delivering the ballot papers to the polling booths. Further, all necessary training to the polling personnel for polling, counting of votes and other tasks should also be done on time, he said. As it takes time for the polling parties to return after polling, they face problems in returning home.

Considering this, payment based transport should be arranged for them after they deposit the ballot boxes, Kumar said. He stressed on evaluation and deployment of security personnel in polling stations marked sensitive and very sensitive. The State election commissioner also directed the police and administration officials to consistently tour their areas while ensuring proper arrangements at the polling stations and polling booths.
