A Bangladeshi national was arrested by the police in Dehradun late on Friday night. During questioning, the man stated that he had earlier stayed in Delhi, Haldwani and Uttarkashi.
It is pertinent to mention here that the Dehradun senior superintendent of police Ajai Singh has directed police officers to conduct verification of suspicious characters and people from outside in their respective police station areas. The checking and verification campaign is being conducted regularly in all police station areas. As part of this campaign, the personnel from Premnagar police station were patrolling late on Friday night when they came across a man roaming in a suspicious manner. The police enquired from him and sought his identification. According to the police, the man became nervous and said that he did not have any identification documents with him. After the police questioned him sternly, the man said that he was a Bangladeshi national and that he did not have any valid documents including passport or visa with him for staying in India. Considering this, the man was arrested under the Foreigner Act and Indian Passport Act. The police informed that during questioning, the man identified as Santo Vishwas (28), said that he had earlier stayed in Delhi, Uttarkashi and Haldwani. Hailing from Khulna in Bangladesh, he was earlier staying in New Delhi. The man is being questioned further by the police and other agencies, officials said.
