The Dehradun district magistrate Savin Bansal instructed National Highways officials to draft a land acquisition proposal within a week for road widening and drainage system upgrades near ISBT. The DM also directed officials to prepare a detailed proposal within 15 days for temporary open drainage systems under the Disaster Management Act in areas prone to waterlogging during monsoons, including private lands, if necessary. He warned of strict action if these directives were not followed. Expressing dissatisfaction at delays in these projects, he issued a stern warning, emphasising that public safety and welfare should not be taken lightly. Bansal conducted a review meeting on Friday focused on improving drainage systems, ensuring smoother traffic flow and enhancing basic city amenities. He directed the officials to submit proposals adhering to standards within the stipulated time frame.
To ensure accountability, he instructed the city magistrate to compile a report on departments adopting an apathetic approach toward public welfare issues. Departments found delaying or neglecting critical work could face action under the DM Act, he said.
He also discussed the construction of five pink toilets and pink booths across Dehradun to enhance facilities for women. He asked the Police department to submit proposals for installing new traffic lights, repairing old ones and developing new intersections. Departments including NH, PWD and Irrigation were directed to submit proposals for new drainage systems and other improvements within a week. He assured officials that lack of funds would not hinder these projects and urged officials to work diligently toward improving the city’s basic infrastructure.
