The Bachpan Bachao Andolan (BBA) along with the district task force will resume the child labour rescue operation from November 30 in Dehradun. BBA’s State coordinator Suresh Uniyal informed on Wednesday that the National Commission for Protection of Child Rights (NCPCR) had instructed BBA and the special task forces to carry out this operation across the nation from November 20 to December 10.
Uniyal said that the programme was slated to commence in Dehradun too on November 20 along with the rest of the country. “But it was delayed owing to the tunnel collapse incident in Uttarkashi. With 41 workers remaining trapped in a tunnel for 17 days, the labour department officers kept visiting the incident site. So the programme will now resume in Doon on November 30,” he said.
Uniyal further informed that the Haridwar district task force had so far rescued 20 children found engaged in labour. “These children were found working in small restaurants located along the stretch of the highway from Haridwar to Laksar. We are confident that many more children will be rescued across the State by December 10 as part of this programme,” he added.
Notably, to facilitate the operation, the district labour commissioner has been assigned with the task of formulating schedules and route maps and acting on the labour commissioner’s instructions, BBA and the district task force will carry out surprise inspections at various locations across the State.
