In latest news from Uttarakhand, the bitterness generated by the widely condemned brawl involving the former Khanpur MLA Kunwar Pranav Singh ‘Champion’ and his arch enemy Umesh Kumar who is presently the MLA from Khanpur seems to have intensified further with both having called meetings of their supporters on two different days. While the mahapanchayat of the Gujjar community-the group ‘Champion’ belongs to- will be held on KV Inter-College ground in Laksar on January 29 Kumar on his part convened a congregation of people under the banner of Brahmin Samaj at his residence in Laksar on January 31.

Notably, in the aftermath of the violent altercations accompanied by firearm threat, while ‘Champion’ was sent to 14 days’ judicial custody Kumar was held but later granted bail.

Taking a serious note of the saber rattling by the hostile groups, Haridwar police have made elaborate security arrangements to maintain law and order. It is not yet clear though whether the proposed gatherings will be allowed to be held.
