The Transport department has finally commenced registration of vehicles under Bharat Series (BH series) in Uttarakhand for those who have to relocate frequently to other cities due to their jobs. The registration has started in the State almost 17 months after the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MoRTH) introduced it in the country in September 2021. The ministry introduced a new form of number plates called BH series in September 2021 for those who have to shift often due to their jobs.
As per the rules, those who have to transfer to another state have to change the registration number of their vehicle at the new place in their respective transport offices. However with the BH series number plates, the vehicle owner will not have to register his/her vehicle in the new states every time on each transfer. Those who will apply for the BH Series plate will receive a new number plate. The format of this number plate will be – YYBH####XX in which YY indicate the first two digits of the year of the first registration, BH is the code for the series, #### indicate four randomly generated numbers and XX indicate two random letters of the English alphabet.
The MoRTH presently provides this registration facility only to the central and state government employees, banks employees, defence personnel and the employees of those private sector companies which have offices in more than three states. The joint transport commissioner Sanat Kumar Singh said that the BH series registration is meant to remove the hassle of re-registering the vehicle in the new State and one can get this number plate by submitting tax of two years in the new State. Only a few people have approached respective RTOs for BH series registration so far as it has started just three days ago but the number is expected to increase in future, said Singh.
