Bhagat requests CM to dissolve development authorities
The Bharatiya Janata Party state president Banshidhar Bhagat submitted a memorandum to the chief minister Trivendra Singh Rawat requesting the development authorities be dissolved in the cities they are functioning in. He said that these development authorities have not been able to fulfill their aims. The CM responded by stating that necessary action will be taken.
Bhagat informed that in the recent past he had toured various areas of the state. During his tour, a major complaint of both BJP workers and the general public was that development authorities functioning in cities were not meeting public expectations. These authorities have no major contribution in development of their areas and are instead harassing people and complicating works instead of simplifying them. Complaints of corruption had also been received in many places. The BJP state president said that considering these aspects, it was felt that there is no point in such development authorities continuing. Taking cognisance of public sentiment, he met the CM and submitted a memorandum seeking the dissolution of such development authorities. A system beneficial to the public should be put in place instead. Bhagat expressed happiness stating that the CM had taken the issue seriously and assured necessary action in the matter.
The main aim of establishing development authorities was to ensure planned development and implementing the rules properly. This would facilitate the public and ensure integrated development in the area. However, in past decades these authorities have not been able to fulfill these aims, he added.
