Bharsar varsity failed live up to expectations : Minister
Rawat takes the officials of the work execution agency to the task for delay in the construction of buildings and other infrastructure of the university
Taking a strong note of the delay in the construction of the building and other infrastructure in Horticulture and Forestry University, Bharsar, the state minister for higher education Dhan Singh Rawat has said that the university has failed to fulfil the objectives for which it was set up ten years ago. The minister said this while undertaking a review of the infrastructural activities of the university at his office at Vidhan Sabha on Tuesday. The minister also reviewed the status of vacant posts of the university. In the meeting Rawat took the officials of the work execution agency to task for delay in the construction of buildings and other infrastructure of the university. The minister directed the secretary, Agriculture education, Harbans Singh Chug to regularly review the progress of the university at his level and take necessary action. He asked the officials to expedite the works in the university. Rawat also directed that the important posts like registrar, deputy registrar, dean and administrative officers of the university should be filled with deputation. Expressing regret on the fact that the university has failed to live up to the expectations, the minister said that during his recent tour, people and public representatives had raised questions on the functioning of the university. In the meeting elaborate discussions were made on the status of under construction buildings of administrative block, Vice Chancellor’s residence, girls’ hostel and arterial roads in the university. The officials of the work execution agencies, Uttar Pradesh Nirman Nigam Limited and BRIDCUL told the minister that work cannot be completed on time due to increase in cost of construction. They told the minister that a revised estimate has been sent to the state administration and assured that all pending work would be completed once the budget is sanctioned. The deputy finance controller of the university put forward a demand to spend Rs two crore deposited in the interest head of the university’s account. Taking exception to the sorry state of affairs of the Institute of medicine and aromatic plants, Gairsain, which is a wing of the university, the BJP MLA Surendra Singh Negi said that the vacant posts should be filled without delay. It was decided that a review meeting on all issues of the university would be held on December 15.
