Bharatiya Janata Party State president and Rajya Sabha MP Mahendra Bhatt said that Congress chose to conduct its Samvidhan Bachao rally on the commencement day of the Char Dham Yatra on Wednesday, showing an intention to adversely affect the economy of the State. This move by Congress becomes more unfortunate as it comes at a time when the country is mourning the Pahalgam attack, he said.

He stated that Congress, despite its long record of constitutional misuse, is now claiming to protect the Constitution. He said that if Congress has any political ethics remaining, it should cancel the rally and contribute to smooth Yatra arrangements. In a Press conference at BJP headquarters on Tuesday, Bhatt questioned the timing and relevance of the Congress rally, stating that Char Dham Yatra plays a key role in Uttarakhand’s economy. He said the opposition party’s political event on the Yatra’s first day reflects its negative approach. Bhatt said, “Congress does not want the State to develop or enhance its identity as a religious destination. This rally disrupts the administration and local people’s efforts. Last year too, Congress made several similar attempts that continued until the end of the Yatra under the name of the Kedarnath Sanstha Yatra.”

Bhatt claimed the rally is an attempt to create unrest and manipulate public confidence. He said that freedom of expression allows parties to voice concerns but Congress has misused democratic rights in the past. Bhatt said Congress even opposed initiatives like Constitution Day and Baba Saheb Ambedkar’s 125th birth anniversary celebrations and consistently questioned the credibility of institutions like the Election Commission. He said Congress blames EVMs after electoral losses but avoids proving its allegations when challenged.

Bhatt claimed that Congress aims to weaken institutions like the judiciary and EC. He listed several events to claim that Congress has repeatedly attacked constitutional systems. He said that Congress’s long history shows repeated instances of disrespect toward the Constitution and constitutional offices. “If Congress is left with any political ethics, it should cancel the rally and contribute to smooth Yatra arrangements,” Bhatt added.
