The Union minister of state for defence and tourism, Ajay Bhatt has written a letter to railway minister Ashwini Vaishnaw to commence the operation of trains daily from Kathgodam to Mumbai. He has stated in the letter that operation of such trains from Kathgodam will make long journeys of passengers from remote areas of Kumaon division quite accessible and easy. He said that Railways operates summer weekly train from Kathgodam to Mumbai called Summer Special train but since Kathgodam is a gateway to the Kumaon division and there has been a rise in the number of people arriving to and fro from Mumbai for various purposes, the Railways should consider starting trains frequently on the said route. He said that lack of such regular trains on the route causes problems to several travellers on a daily basis. He said that apart from the people from Mumbai and the Kumaon division, passengers from the neighbouring country Nepal also travel through the summer special train from Kathgodam and regular operation of trains will help them too. Considering the public welfare and requirements, the ministry should consider starting the operation of trains between Kathgodam and Mumbai daily, added Bhatt.
