Acting on the longstanding people’s demand, the Union minister of state for defence Ajay Bhatt has requested the Railways minister Ashwini Vaishnaw to ensure that the Ramnagar-Bandra Express (22975/76) which presently runs once a week (Friday) runs thrice a week. In a letter written to the Railways minister, Bhatt, who represents Nainital-Udham Singh Nagar constituency in the Lok Sabha, said that with a multitude of people boarding this train, it is always crammed.
The people are being inconvenienced as it often becomes difficult for them to reach their destinations in time, he said. Expounding why the train should run thrice a week, Bhatt said that hordes of tourists come from western India and Maharashtra, in particular, to Ramnagar through this train to visit the famed Corbett National Park all the year round. Besides, Uttarakhand being a vibrant centre of spiritual tourism, pilgrims also come to the State on the same train to visit important temples and other religious places spread over the Kumaon region, he mentioned in the letter.
He also alluded to the inconvenience being suffered by the natives of Nainital and Udham Singh Nagar districts who are settled in Mumbai in connection with trade and other economic activities. Besides, Bhatt said, youth in large numbers journey to Mumbai for film-associated works or for academic pursuits. In view of this, running the train thrice a week is an imperative, reasoned Bhatt.
