The Bharatiya Janata Party has welcomed all the bills tabled in the Vidhan Sabha including the women’s reservation bill and the amendment bill to incorporate stricter provisions in the Uttarakhand Freedom of Religion Act. The BJP State president Mahendra Bhatt thanked chief minister Pushkar Singh Dhami and said that the provision to grant 30 per cent horizontal reservation to women in government jobs will grant half of the State’s population its full right. He further said that provision of 10 years sentence to those found guilty of forced religious conversion will instill the fear of the law in such criminal elements. Bhatt said that all the bills tabled in the Vidhan Sabha by the BJP government are aimed at public welfare and meeting public expectations.
Expressing happiness at the women’s reservation bill, he said that with this the BJP has fulfilled another commitment made to the public. “By first approaching the Supreme Court against the High Court decision in the matter and then by tabling a bill, the BJP has proved that it accords top priority to the honour and empowerment of women. Similarly, to rein in those involved in the conspiracy to bring about religion based demographic changes in the State, the government tabling the amendment in the Act to enable upto 10 years imprisonment for those guilty of forced religious conversion and upto Rs five lakh compensation to the victim also shows our commitment. The other bills including those related to waste management, Panchayati Raj and others have been brought in with the intention to provide relief to the people of Uttarakhand,” said the BJP State president.
