The Bharatiya Janata Party has accused former chief minister and senior Congress leader Harish Rawat of playing politics in the July 31 disaster in the Kedarnath valley. The BJP State general secretary Aditya Kothari said that the Congress is spreading misinformation about the Kedarnath tragedy which is damaging Uttarakhand’s reputation. He said that the Centre and the State government provided all possible aid to the people following the disaster. He stated that the central government had sanctioned a relief package of Rs 10 crore while the State government announced schemes worth Rs 48.36 crore. The State government stands firmly with the people of Kedarnath Valley on every front and Congress is just harping on baseless issues and shedding crocodile tears over compensation for disaster victims, he said. Kothari also alleged that during its tenure, Congress treated the public unfairly, which is why people have now rejected them. He said that Congress only comes to people during election season to mislead them. Kothari said that chief minister Pushkar Singh Dhami has made multiple announcements for Kedarnath and is actively working to implement them on the ground, with several projects already completed as part of the Kedarnath reconstruction efforts. He also claimed that BJP has garnered massive public support, which has rattled Congress and prompted baseless statements. He accused Congress leaders of using divisive tactics and raising unfounded questions about the State’s pilgrimage policies all in a bid to win the election. Kothari also criticised leader of opposition Yashpal Arya, suggesting he should look in the mirror regarding how Congress treated Kedarnath under its rule. He added that the development work undertaken by BJP in Kedarnath is widely appreciated by pilgrims. He emphasised that the BJP is focused on the development of Uttarakhand and remains committed to supporting the local people.
