The Bharatiya Janata Party and the Congress party have assured labourers that they will fulfill their demands regarding basic labour rights. They assured this in response to the recent presentation of demands by a delegation behalf of the 518 daily wage labourers on Monday. The delegation submitted a letter outlining the demands that the party elected to office should address. Among these demands is the provision of homes for labourers which was promised by political parties un 2022 but is yet to be fulfilled. Additionally, the letter calls for a mechanism to hold accountable those who fail to pay for services rendered, as well as provision for scholarships for labourers’ children in accordance with the law. Despite offering subsidies worth crores of rupees to private companies, the government seems to lack in fulfilling these obligations, the memorandum stated
Regarding this matter, the BJP State office secretary emphasised the party’s dedication to addressing these concerns and expressed willingness to explore potential solutions. Additionally, the chief spokesperson of the Congress party Garima Dasauni said that opposition parties have been persistently highlighting the alleged failure of the BJP government to uphold public interest laws established during the Congress government era in both rural and urban areas, jeopardising people’s residences and means of living. Assuring the labourers about the demand, she highlighted that women, labourers, youth and other societal segments would benefit from the Congress Party’s five guarantees. Apart from this, the INDUA bloc also assured that it will fulfill their demands.
