BJP appoints senior leaders & ministers coordinators for ULB elections

The Bharatiya Janata Party has appointed senior leaders and cabinet ministers as coordinators for various municipal bodies across Uttarakhand in preparation for the ensuing urban local body elections. This strategic move is aimed at ensuring a strong performance by the party in these crucial elections, the State media in-charge Manveer Singh Chauhan said. 

As per the list issued by BJP on Friday, former chief minister and Haridwar MP Trivendra Singh Rawat has been assigned the role of coordinator for the Municipal Corporation of Haridwar and the Shivalik Nagar Municipal Council. Union Minister of State and Almora-Pithoragarh MP Ajay Tamta will oversee the Municipal Corporation of Haldwani while former CM Ramesh Pokhriyal Nishank has been tasked with managing the Municipal Corporation of Roorkee. Also, Lok Sabha member from Nainital-Udham Singh Nagar, Ajay Bhatt has been given responsibility for the Municipal Corporation of Rudrapur and the Gadarpur Municipal Council. Rajya Sabha MP Naresh Bansal will handle the Municipal Corporation of Kashipur and the Ramnagar Municipal Council.

Among cabinet ministers, Prem Chand Aggarwal will manage the Municipal Corporation of Rishikesh, while Ganesh Joshi has been assigned the Municipal Corporation of Dehradun and the Mussoorie Municipal Council. Cabinet minister Subodh Uniyal will oversee the Municipal Corporation of Kotdwar, Muni Ki Reti Municipal Council and the Nagar Panchayats of Gaja and Tapovan. Rekha Arya will manage the Municipal Corporation of Pithoragarh, along with the Gangolihat and Berinag Municipal Councils. Saurabh Bahuguna has been entrusted with the Municipal Corporation of Almora.

Chauhan said that BJP’s move to allocate responsibilities to senior leaders and ministers reflects its focus on consolidating its position in governance. The appointments are the part of a well-planned strategy to strengthen the party’s campaign and ensure success in the ULBs elections across Uttarakhand, he said.
