The Bharatiya Janata Party has raised an objection against the Congress for linking the term Jihad with revolution, stating that it is an insult to those who sacrificed their lives for the country. The BJP leaders claimed that Congress is trying to redefine the term Jihad for vote banks. They criticised Congress for its approach towards religious and legal matters, calling it the root cause of various disputes, including Waqf and Muslim personal law. They alleged that Congress is supporting Jihad and illegal madarsas just for vote bank politics considering ensuing 2027 Vidhan Sabha elections. The BJP’s State president and Rajya Sabha MP Mahendra Bhatt accused Congress of engaging in appeasement politics. He said that Congress leaders, with the support of their high command, are trying to redefine the meaning of Jihad. He claimed that the commonly understood meaning of Jihad involves opposition to those of other faiths. According to him, Congress leaders in Uttarakhand are glorifying Jihad for their vote bank, which he said is an insult to those who sacrificed everything for the country. He demanded that Congress leaders apologise to the public for their statements and actions. During media interaction at the party headquarters in Dehradun, Lansdowne MLA Dilip Rawat also criticised Congress for its stance on religious issues. He alleged that Congress members claim to be Sanatanis but always take the side of the opposition. He said that Congress spokespersons speaking about Jihad do not understand its meaning and that the term originates from the Arabic word “Jehad,” which, according to him, refers to opposition against people of religions other than Islam. He questioned whether Congress supports such ideas. He further claimed that Congress’ political approach is leading the party towards decline.
