The Bharatiya Janata Party has claimed that it will form boards in all 12 districts where Panchayat elections were held in Uttarakhand. Out of the 358 seats contested, only a little over 120 official BJP candidates secured victories. However, the party maintains that a majority of independent candidates who won are now supporting the BJP.
Following the announcement of the results on Thursday, BJP workers gathered at the party headquarters in Dehradun on Friday to celebrate what they described as a victory. Party members marked the occasion with dhols, sweets and firecrackers.
Senior BJP leader and Rajpur MLA Khajan Das addressed the media during the celebrations. He stated that most seats in the village Panchayat, district Panchayat and block Panchayat levels have gone to BJP supported candidates. He claimed that maximum independent candidates who won the elections also support BJP.
The MLA said that wins and losses are a part of the process but the party is satisfied with its performance. Das added that the party is assured that their candidates will be elected in the upcoming elections for block Pramukh and district Panchayat presidents.
