The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has stated that the ensuing Kedarnath by-election will shape the Assembly constituency’s development, honour its legacy and uphold the sanctity of Devbhoomi. According to the party, those who saw the recent Badrinath Assembly by-election results as a defeat for Sanatan values will be taught a lesson by the people of Kedarnath. In a statement released to the media, the BJP State president Mahendra Bhatt labeled Congress leaders’ anticipation of blessings from Lord Kedarnath in the elections as misguided.
He argued that those who attempted to halt the transformative projects in Kedarnath by approaching the court, who sought to erode public trust by making false allegations about donations made by devotees and who prioritised the interests of criminal outsiders over the security of the Kedarnath, will face the consequences in the Assembly bypoll. “Lord Kedarnath and the people of the valley will not forgive such actions,” he stated, expressing confidence that the voters will deliver a strong message. Bhatt further criticised the Congress while recalling the mismanagement following the 2013 Kedarnath disaster. He alleged that the Congress administration exploited the reconstruction funds for personal gain, leaving the affected residents in distress, while then chief minister Harish Rawat was more interested in entertainment than relief efforts. Bhatt also claimed that Rawat, now seeking blessings for the Congress candidate, had previously squandered considerable amounts of public funds on futile attempts to discover a new route to Kedarnath. Bhatt praised the Pushkar Singh Dhami government for effectively managing the recent natural disaster earlier this year, ensuring minimal loss of life and property. He stated that this has reinforced the faith of devotees in Kedarnath which is reflected in the high footfall at the shrine.
Talking about the connection between the local residents and BJP leaders, Bhatt said that the people of Kedarnath know who truly stood by them in times of crisis. “Those who attempt to portray electoral victories tied to sacred sites as a defeat for Sanatan values will receive a fitting lesson from the people of Kedarnath,” he said.
