The Bharatiya Janata Party expressed its determination to honour the Statehood martyrs by implementing stringent land laws on the 30th anniversary of the Rampur Tiraha incident on Wednesday. The State BJP president Mahendra Bhatt paid tribute to Mahatma Gandhi and former Prime Minister Lal Bahadur Shastri on Wednesday while remembering the martyrs of Uttarakhand’s statehood movement. Speaking to the media, Bhatt stated that the people of Uttarakhand are observing the 30th anniversary of the Rampur Tiraha incident on Gandhi Jayanti.

He expressed the BJP’s eternal gratitude to the activists who sacrificed their lives for the creation of Uttarakhand, acknowledging that their struggle and martyrdom led to the State’s formation. He said that under the leadership of chief minister Pushkar Singh Dhami, the government is working towards building Uttarakhand in accordance with the dreams of these activists. He emphasised that the State has made significant developmental achievements over the past 24 years. The BJP is committed to development while preserving the State’s cultural heritage and the government is advancing towards its vision of making Uttarakhand a developed state.

Addressing media questions on Congress’s accusations, Bhatt stated that whenever BJP has been in power, it has worked relentlessly to preserve the State’s land and resources while ensuring unprecedented development. He criticised the Congress for looting the State and added that it was unfortunate to hear Congress, which had always opposed the State’s formation, now making tall claims on land laws and domicile issues. Bhatt said that BJP graciously accepted the Congress’s challenge regarding the implementation of strong land laws and the resolution of the domicile issue. He assured that the BJP has overcome every hurdle related to the State’s development and will similarly implement stringent land laws and resolve the domicile issue. Bhatt also urged Congress not to politicise these serious and sensitive issues.
