PIONEER NEWS SERVICE/Dehradun

Rejecting the allegations levelled by the Congress and accusing it of spreading disinformation in collusion with the mining mafia, the Bharatiya Janata Party has reiterated that zero tolerance for corruption is one of the major achievements of the State government under chief minister Pushkar Singh Dhami.

The Dhami government has initiated action against corruption during its three years in office so far with most of the complaints being received against Electricity, Police, Public Works Department and Education department. On the other hand, the Mining department has achieved fivefold revenue, considering which the allegations of corruption are baseless.

Rajpur Road MLA and BJP State spokesman Khajan Das said that during his term so far, Dhami showed moral courage and ordered a probe into all corruption cases irrespective of the time period. Recruitment in the Vidhan Sabha and scams in appointment to government jobs are among these cases. A strict anti-copying law was also enacted in Uttarakhand, which is an example for the nation. “The State government is continuing to take action against corruption. More than 80 persons have been nabbed red-handed while accepting bribes during the past three years while dozens have been taken into custody following allegations of corruption. Action has been taken against such a large number of persons for corruption for the first time since the creation of Uttarakhand,” he said.

He said that the cases seen so far have made it clear that nobody involved in corruption will be spared irrespective of his or her connections. The Vigilance Establishment has been made more active and a toll-free number 1064 has also been issued for this purpose. During this period, most cases of corruption have been reported in the Electricity, Police, PWD and Education departments, the BJP leader said.

Das further said that the Mining department is earning a fivefold revenue compared to its past revenue. The government is reining in the mining mafia with an eightfold rise in penalties. He said that the opposition should pat the government’s back instead of levelling allegations at it, considering the rise in revenue and action against the mining mafia. The opposition is working in collusion with the mafia to spread disinformation, Das alleged.
