BJP demands apology from Sonia Gandhi over alleged disrespect to President

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has strongly condemned former Congress president Sonia Gandhi for her alleged remark about President Droupadi Murmu. BJP leaders have called the comment an insult to the nation and demanded an immediate apology from Gandhi.

The BJP State President and Rajya Sabha MP Mahendra Bhatt criticised Gandhi’s reported description of the President as a poor lady, calling it a reflection of Congress’ feudal mindset and its disregard for women, tribal communities and the poor. He asserted that the President is the pride of 1.3 billion Indians and such remarks are unacceptable, especially from a senior parliamentarian.

Bhatt accused the Congress leadership of deliberately using such language to demean the country’s highest constitutional authority. He emphasised that Murmu, a tribal woman who has risen through her own hard work and determination, is neither helpless nor weak. He stated that calling her poor is an insult to the strength and resilience of women and marginalised communities across the country. He also criticised Gandhi for allegedly calling the President’s address boring and said that it reflects Congress’ lack of seriousness towards parliamentary traditions and governance.

He stated that India, the world’s largest democracy, deserves respect for its institutions, and Congress’ attitude is unacceptable. Bhatt further attacked the Congress party, stating that if anything is truly poor or tired, it is Congress itself. He accused the party of dividing society for political gain and failing to contribute to national development, leading to its repeated electoral failures. BJP leaders and workers strongly condemn Gandhi’s remarks and will not tolerate any disrespect towards the President, he said.
