With the Congress upping its efforts for the coming Vidhan Sabha elections, the Bharatiya Janata Party too has stepped up its efforts. The BJP has deputed its core committee members the responsibility of achieving a victory for the party in the seats where it lost in the previous election.
The BJP State general secretary Kundan Parihar informed that the party’s State president and Rajya Sabha member Mahendra Bhatt has delegated core committee members and senior leaders/position holders of the party to work in the Vidhan Sabha constituencies. These leaders will be active in the 23 Assembly seats till the elections to ensure that the party’s organisational programmes are successful. They will work to improve coordination for the party’s programmes till the booth level while facilitating talk on the party’s and the BJP government’s works and plans among the public and ground level workers of the party.
The BJP’s plan comes at a time when its internal survey reportedly states that the voters are not in the mood to re-elect most of its MLAs including cabinet ministers due to their poor performance. The so called latest instructions of the party as communicated by Parihar are being stated for at least a couple of years now without the desired effect, as evident, at a time when the ruling party is talking about publicising government’s achievements and works after nearly five years in office. Observers point out that while the factionalism is evident and openly talked about in the Congress, the same situation also plagues the BJP, though it is seldom talked about. If inside sources are to be believed, the public is unhappy with many ministers and seasoned politicians who have been elected many times to the Vidhan Sabha in the past. Most of these leaders are those who defected from the Congress, got elected on sympathy votes or due to their past performance, which has drastically changed now.
