BJP expels many renegade leaders & office bearers contesting against party candidates in ULB polls

The Bharatiya Janata Party has expelled scores of its leaders and workers for either directly contesting the urban local body elections against the official party candidate or their close family members contesting against the BJP candidates. The rebels have been expelled from the party for a period of six years.
Those suspended by the party include former municipal council chairman Bhupendra Singh Chauhan for contesting as an independent from Badahat municipal council, former district head Ummichand Shah for contesting as an independent from Purola municipal council, former block Pramukh Yashwant Kumar for contesting as an independent from Naugaon Nagar Panchayat and Shakti Kendra coordinator Ajay Singh Rawat for contesting as an independent candidate from the Badkot municipal council. The former Ukhimath district Panchayat chairman and the party’s district working committee member Vijay Rana and the party’s former Agastyamuni Nagar Mandal minister Sushil Goswami have also been expelled from the party for a period of six years. According to sources in the BJP, apart from these party leaders and office bearers, scores of other party leaders and members have also been expelled for either directly contesting against the official party candidates or for the close family members contesting against the party candidates. Action has been taken against a number of party members for indulging in anti-party activities, a BJP leader said. The party has acted against its rebels in Rudraprayag, Chamoli, Pauri and Tehri districts.
