BJP eying many targets with Dhami’s elevation

Sunday, 04 July 2021 | PNS | Dehradun

By appointing Pushkar Singh Dhami to the post of Chief Minister the BJP has tried to hit many targets with a single arrow in the poll bound Uttarakhand. The party believes that Dhami’s elevation would give a boost to fortunes of the party in the politically sensitive Kumaon region which accounts for 29 MLAs in the house of 70.

The party was reportedly on a loose wicket in Kumaon region. The party also believes that elevation of Dhami who is 45 years old would help in attracting the youth of the state. In the last assembly elections the BJP had got an overwhelming support of youngsters which boosted the numbers of the party in assembly.

In the pandemic period lakhs of youths have returned back to the state from different parts of the country after losing their jobs. Apart from it the high rate of unemployment and delay in recruitment process of many posts was creating resentment among the youths. The party believes that by bringing a fresh young face it would be able to woo the youth back to its fold.

Dhami who is a Rajput from Kumaon region would be an ideal foil for the veteran and charismatic Harish Rawat. BJP knows that Harish Rawat is the tallest leader of the Congress party and has considerable influence in Kumaon and Dhami’s elevation as CM could neutralise Rawat’s influence.
