Criticising the BJP government of Uttarakhand for reducing the penalty imposed on the mining offences, the Pradesh Congress Committee (PCC) president Karan Mahara has said that the State government is protecting the mafia. Interacting with the media persons at the State headquarters of the State Congress here on Friday, the PCC president said that on one hand the houses of poor residing there from many years are being demolished in the name of anti encroachment drive and on the other, the penalty imposed on mining offences is slashed. On the mega public outreach campaign of BJP, Mahara said that the Congress party is also reaching to the masses to explain the failures of the BJP government. He said that the people of Uttarakhand want to question BJP about the Ankita Bhandari murder case, recruitment scams, rising unemployment, escalating prices and sinking of Joshimath town. He said that the Karnataka elections have proved that the people have understood the rhetoric of the BJP.
