BJP leader pushes for law to regulate private schools

PIONEER NEWS SERVICE | Dehradun

Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Ravindra Jugran stated that in order to protect students, their parents, teachers and employees from the arbitrary practices and exploitation by private schools, there is a pressing need for legislation similar to the Self-Financed Independent School Fee Regulation Act of 2018. This will help control private schools, much like the government of Uttar Pradesh under its chief minister Yogi Adityanath has done.

Jugran opined that many private schools in Uttarakhand, including those in Dehradun, are engaged in unfair practices, such as imposing unjustified fee increases and pressuring parents to purchase books and uniforms from the school at inflated prices. He pointed out that these schools have become uncontrolled, financially exploiting parents while also paying teachers and staff very low salaries.

Further, he said that missionary and other schools occupying government-leased land were also engaging in similar arbitrary practices. Given these issues, Jugran expressed his intention to meet soon with the Education minister and the chief minister Pushkar Singh Dhami to advocate for the creation of legislation along the lines of that enacted by the government in Uttar Pradesh.
